In a new teaser trailer, IllFonic announces a game mode called “Paranoia.” Jason may be the game’s main antagonist, but once this new Friday the 13th game mode goes live, the counselors could face an even tougher threat. There is currently no release date attached to the mode, but it will be released as a free update.
IllFonic also teases the update using the hashtag #whoisfiVe, which is meant to ask players “who is part five Jason?” There have been a dozen Friday the 13th movies so far and although most of these star Jason as the antagonist, in 1985’s Friday the 13th Part 5: A New Beginning, Jason Voorhees isn’t the killer. Instead, the killer in that movie puts on Jason’s mask and performs copy-cat killings.
IllFonic has yet to provide an official description of the Paranoia game mode but it seems likely that Jason will not be the killer in this mode either. Instead, a counselor will likely be the killer and other players will be ‘paranoid’ and unable to figure out who is after them until it’s too late. It sounds like a terrifying battle of wits, teamwork, and how well players can keep their nerve, staying cool to root out the real killer instead of turning on each other.
The mode is a fitting addition to the game given that Friday the 13th already offers several skins based on the other movie Jasons. IllFonic recently introduced a Jason Part 4 skin alongside the Jarvis House map. It makes sense for the developer to make an entire game mode based on one of the movie’s twists, in addition to brand new skins and maps.
For fans of the Friday the 13th movie franchise, this should whet their appetite as they await more content based on the classic horror movies. The single-player mode is also based on movie content, but it currently doesn’t have a release date. It’s disappointing that players can’t mark it on their calendars just yet, but hopefully, the Paranoia game mode will provide enough entertainment while they wait.
Friday the 13th: The Game is out now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
