“Well, Fret Nice is musically endowed, but it’s an action platformer with a cool new mechanic that’s played with a guitar controller or any regular controller,”  says Ray Murakawa, Fret Nice Producer for publisher Tecmo.

Mårten Brüggemann, Creator/Designer of Fret Nice at developer Pieces Interactive adds,

The game looks to combine the traditional running and jumping of old school platformers with unique guitar based attacks called Riff Combos.  The Riff Combo attacks are not rhythm based, but rather focus on improvisation, an area Brüggemann finds lacking in most music games.

The whole game is wrapped up in an attractive, stylized 2D/3D art style, with the characters moving a bit like paper dolls.

PSN has a reputation for high quality original titles, and Fret Nice looks to uphold that tradition.  As many music games as I play, I’m always curious as to what else can be done with my (many) guitar/bass/drum controllers.  This seems like a clever idea, and I’ll sure check it out.  What do you think?  Should more companies try to make use of the peripherals so many of us have littering our homes?

Fret Nice releases exclusively for PSN/PS3 on February 4.
