With the introduction of the PS5, Sony has established new PS Plus patterns. PS Plus subscribers expect to receive two free PS4 games and one free PS5 game, and they also expect the next free games to be announced on the last Wednesday of every month. However, Sony broke from its established PlayStation Plus patterns in key ways when it comes to the free PS Plus games for November 2021, both in regards to the games that it is offering to subscribers, as well as how it revealed those games to subscribers in the first place.

Here are all the key ways the free PS Plus games for November 2021 are different than the norm.

All the Free PS Plus Games for November 2021

First Class Trouble (PS4/PS5) Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning (PS4) Knockout City (PS4/PS5) The Persistence (PSVR) The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners (PSVR) Until You Fall (PSVR)

One of the major ways that the free PS Plus games for November 2021 differ from the norm is that there are a whopping six games being made available for free to subscribers. Usually, PS Plus subscribers are treated to two PlayStation 4 games and one PlayStation 5 game, but once the free PS Plus games for November 2021 are added on Tuesday, November 2, subscribers will be able to claim two cross-gen games for PS4 and PS5, one PS4 game, and three PlayStation VR games.

The headlining game for the free PS Plus games for November 2021 lineup is First Class Trouble, a brand new release that will be availble as a freebie to PS Plus subscribers on the day of its launch. First Class Trouble is the latest take on the social deduction genre, and should appeal to those who like games like Among Us. It’s considered the “PS5” offering for the November 2021 lineup, even though its PS4 version will be readily available to PS Plus subscribers as well.

The other cross-gen PS Plus game that makes up the free PS Plus games for November 2021 is Knockout City. Knockout City is an action-packed, multiplayer-only game that has players battling it out in an over-the-top version of dodgeball. Knockout City earned mostly positive reviews when it launched earlier this year, and its addition to the PS Plus lineup should go a long way in helping it find a bigger audience.

And finally, the free PS4 PS Plus game for November 2021 is Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. A remastered version of Kingdoms of Amalur, Re-Reckoning has some new content on the way in the form of paid DLC that should expand the experience even further.

Free PlayStation VR PS Plus Games for November 2021

First Class Trouble, Knockout City, and Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning represent the traditional free PS Plus games that make up the November 2021 lineup, but as previously mentioned, there are a total of six games available for subscribers to claim next month. The aforementioned titles are joined by three PlayStation VR games that Sony is giving away for free as a way to celebrate the PSVR headset’s five year anniversary.

While Sony could’ve offered any old PlayStation VR titles as freebies, the games it selected are actually considered to be quite good in the virtual reality community. The Persistence is a solid sci-fi/horror roguelike game, whereas The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is a well-received survival game set in The Walking Dead universe. Until You Fall, meanwhile, is a roguelite hack-and-slash where VR players fight to see how long they can survive.

All three of these games are solid picks for anyone with a PlayStation VR headset handy. And while those without PlayStation VR won’t be able to fully enjoy these titles, it should be noted that The Persistence also has a non-VR option for PS Plus subscribers to check out if they so desire.

Free PS Plus Games for November 2021 Announcement

The abundance of games and the inclusion of PlayStation VR titles already help the free PS Plus games for November 2021 stand out from other months, but there are other reasons the November offerings are different, too. The way Sony decided to announce the free PS Plus games for November 2021 was different from usual, with the announcement coming later than expected and Sony announcing one of the free PS Plus games in advance.

Sony usually reserves the last Wednesday of any given month as the day it announces the next batch of free PS Plus titles, but that didn’t happen with the free PS Plus games for November 2021. On the contrary, Sony used the last Wednesday of October to host its State of Play presentation, which was focused on third-party games in development for PS4 and PS5. Some expected Sony to unveil the free PS Plus games lineup at its State of Play event, though it only confirmed First Class Trouble for the service.

The next day, Thursday, October 28, Sony finally revealed the full PS Plus games lineup for November 2021. While announcing the free PS Plus games on a Thursday is not the norm, this isn’t the first time that Sony has made the announcement on a different day of the month, and fans shouldn’t expect this to become a pattern. That being said, the free PS Plus games for December 2021 will likely be announced later than expected.

The last Wednesday of November 2021 is November 24, but the first Tuesday of December isn’t until December 7. This means that the free PS Plus games for December 2021 announcement will most likely come on Wednesday, December 1 instead of on the last Wednesday of November, as the PlayStation Store doesn’t update with the new PS Plus games until the first Tuesday of the month.

It’s true that there’s been a couple of wonky months when it comes to the free PS Plus games lineup, but for the most part PS Plus subscribers can still count on the PS Plus game announcements to come on the last Wednesday of the month.

Free PS5 PS Plus Games for November 2021

And finally, another key way that the free PS Plus games for November 2021 differ from the usual is that there are multiple native PS5 games on offer. Generally speaking, the free PS Plus games for any given month tend to offer two PS4 games and one native PS5 game. However, the free PS Plus games for November 2021 have two cross-gen games on offer, with both First Class Trouble and Knockout City offering native PS5 versions. This means that PS5 gamers have even more to look forward to in November 2021 than usual, but don’t expect this to become commonplace. Sony will likely stick to its usual pattern of giving away one free PS5 game and two free PS4 games most months.
