Shiny Pokemon, characterized primarily by their unique color schemes which stand out among others of their species, have been sought after by Trainers around the world since Pokemon Gold and Silver hit the shelves, and the activity of shiny hunting remains just as popular in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet today. Though the latest generation of Pokemon games bring with them heaps of bugs that have been known to interfere with players’ shiny hunts, the new titles also introduce some new gameplay features which help fans seek out shiny Pokemon faster in a more interesting open-world environment. This new method of spotting shinies in the overworld has proven to pose its own challenges, however, with many fans sharing tragic examples of how shiny encounters can quickly go wrong.

Reddit user Hesk121 demonstrates this perfectly in a clip that they shared. After spotting a shiny Pawmi nestled among a group of its kin, the player approaches to engage it in a battle only to accidentally challenge its non-shiny friend instead. The Trainer is quick to flee from the battle with the hopes of chasing down the shiny Pawmi before it escapes, managing to get into a battle with it after a short pursuit. Unfortunately for the player though, the Pawmi damaged itself with a move after it was put to low HP, promptly knocking itself out before the player had the chance to toss a Poke Ball.

Gamers inside the Pokemon community as well as beyond it have been well aware of the many technical issues in Scarlet and Violet since they released last November, with poor graphics, jagged performance, and plenty of bugs both irritating and amusing provoking a lot of upset in fans. Some of these glitches have had a particular impact on shiny hunting enthusiasts, with many complaining about shiny Pokemon not standing out in the overworld and even becoming stuck in walls occasionally.

Despite the initial backlash from the community though, many Pokemon fans have found themselves hooked by the world, characters, and new gameplay elements introduced with Scarlet and Violet. The plethora of new Pokemon has given fans many new shinies to seek out, giving players a lot to do in the Paldea region as the community awaits the possible announcement of DLC in the future.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available on Nintendo Switch.
